Equisetum arvense

.5 oz. Dried, Chopped Herb

Horsetail is an ancient plant dated back to approximately 350 million years ago. Due to its unique expression, common names also include scouring rush, bottle brush, and shavegrass.

Equisetum arvense is considered a nutritious herb and is usually decocted as tea and infused into herbal vinegars and tonics.

Not to be confused with cat-tail, it is possibly the most significant source of silica among plants, in fact the herb can be used for polishing metal and is known as "scouring rush".

Traditional uses include it as an ingredient in shampoos, skincare products, and in dietary supplements. Its high silica content also makes it a supportive herb for bone health, wound healing, and nail strengthening!

Some believe that the silica in horsetail can boost collagen production, which may help to improve skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Horsetail has been traditionally used topically to help with minor cuts and burns,  due to its anti-inflammatory and astringent properties.

Some people use horsetail for conditions like acne or eczema.

Horsetail can stimulate hair growth and reduce hair loss, potentially by strengthening hair follicles. The silica in horsetail is thought to contribute to stronger, less brittle hair. Some report that horsetail makes their hair look shinier.

Horsetail can be infused into oils or used to make teas, which can then be used topically or consumed.

To prepare as tea:

Pour 8 oz boiling water over 2 tsp of herb.

Cover and Steep for 5-10 minutes

Strain and Serve!
