Echinacea Angustifolia
Echinacea has become a popular herb in American folk herbalism.
Echinacea angustifolia, a native member of the sunflower family, is found throughout North America. The cultivated root is used to make tea, tinctures, and topical oils. First used by Indigenous Americans and herbalists, echinacea was introduced to Europe during the early 1900's. Popular for supporting healthy immune response, this herb was used for a range of traditional applications. According to Melvin Gilmore, in North America, Echinacea was a remedy "for more ailments than any other plant".
A variety of tribes, such as the Pawnee and Dakota, used it both internally and externally. Echinacea root is still used in teas, tinctures, and herbal formulas.
